This is to serve the demands of this evolving life these days, at an accelerated pace, and remaining faithful to permanent and immutable lines of a solidly based popular education method, as we continually develop our technical work, to which we try to learn, not our publications and our training, the mass of educators. The transformation began. The new tools we introduced at the School have shown their effectiveness.
It is they who will triumph as the car has overcome the cart. * * * But danger lurks side techniques. We talk, we, technical educational work with the new tools, and manic or exploiters of advances today speak of printing technique, technique of lino technique of patatogravure, technique of dramatic play or puppets. Publications are born – and vanish too – that apply to cultivate these particular techniques.
Courses are organized to improve the technical competence of teachers with regard to the new tools that we have introduced to the school. And we may well train educators who, proud of their patents, know how to handle the printing perfection, gouge, patatogravure or puppets, but who have not learned the art techniques, the class work with these new tools.
We even say that there is some danger in pushing and technical competence if we do not at the same time the preparation work that will put this technology for the training of children. As there is danger in believing that a housewife is essentially to have a good electric cooker and know the maneuver skill.
With this stove and this improved competence, the housewife will burn every time his dinner if she has not studied the technique – art – to cut vegetables, seasoning of fat and manipulate them with caution essential. It can be a very bad manager knowing lead to perfection electric stove. One may be insufficient educator while master in the art of typesetting or preparation puppets.
One can learn in a few hours or a few minutes to maneuver the cooker, but we will always have something to learn in the dinner preparation technique. One can learn in a few hours or a few minutes to compose, to burn linoleum, making puppets, while thirty years of research and practice will not be enough to use to perfection these new tools in our classrooms, and that often we still make mistakes, often burn dinner or missed flavor, or will not be cooked through. * * * We certainly do not neglect the introduction to maneuver tools.
It has its importance and usefulness. But nevertheless very concerning because if our tools are truly within the reach of children, they are grasping, even in spite of us, with a boldness and dexterity beyond us. But the really important issue, one that will never be solved, one that justifies and nourishes all our publications, is the continuing development of our technical work with the new tools.
The question facing all educators, not so much “How do I print? How is grave- linoleum? But: How to develop a text? How to use? How to practice matches? How to prepare and implement the work plans? How to use cards? How to navigate in the midst of children who are not all sitting idly? We meet this obvious need educators our courses, our magazines, our collection that everyone should own, BENP, our books, our control schools soon for our films-techniques.
It is this task that had never been made before us, because it is actually tricky, as we approach, we experimentally, but boldly and practically. And it is to the extent that we move forward, that we dominate the techniques and machinery to restore to man his dignity and power, so that it can tomorrow to face the criminal maneuvers of the atomic bomb technocrats impose a working technique, peace and efficiency, will put the inhuman machinery at the service of humanity.
